Romano delivers verdict on Tottenham move for ‘super expensive’ 25-year-old target

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Edmond Tapsoba will be difficult to pull off.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham might not have ended the season in the best possible way but they are looking at ways to reinforce their squad. Despite having signed two centre-backs in the last two windows, they are looking for another defensive signing and Edmond Tapsoba is one of the names on their wishlist.

The Bayer Leverkusen centre-back has been a consistent performer for them in recent years and his performances have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. While Spurs are keen on having him in their squad, Romano feels the overall cost of the operation will make things difficult for the North London club.

Romano said on Tottenham’s pursuit of the Leverkusen star to GiveMeSport: “For centre-back at the moment, I think they are very happy with Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven – so they could bring in a new centre-back, but it has to be a good opportunity. Also, they spent important money on Radu Dragusin in the January transfer window.

“Edmond Tapsoba is super expensive. I think it is going to be difficult for Tottenham to return for last summer’s target, because it’s really, super expensive.”

Cristian Romero has been one of the standout performers for Tottenham over the last few seasons and they have found a perfect partner for him in Micky Van de Ven who was one of the initial signings made by Ange Postecoglou.

They forked out a significant fee to sign him from VfL Wolfsburg. Spurs made another major investment to further strengthen their defence in the winter when they signed Radu Dragusin.

While they do have quality in the heart of the defence, they are looking to sign another defender ahead of next season and add some depth. However, Romano feels they will only make a move if there is a financially viable opportunity for them in the market.

Leverkusen’s Tapsoba good be a great signing for them, but it will require a significant investment. Having already spent a fortune on defensive reinforcements, adding the 25-year-old to their ranks could be very difficult for the North London club.
