Villarreal coach Marcelino had mixed emotions after their 4-4 draw with Real Madrid.

Alexander Sorloth scored all four goals for the hosts on the day.

Marcelino was very critical of his team for their first half, in which they showed "very little intensity and solidarity. The only ones who had anything at stake were us, but it didn't seem like it. I am quite disappointed and sad with the first half.

"They put four on us and because they were waiting for another game," he lamented.

Despite being upset, he did appreciate the reaction after the restart: "In the second half we were what we have been, with a stratospheric Sorloth. The team attacked together and recovered the ball together. We managed to tie the result of a embarrassing first half."

The Asturian, who declared himself "responsible" for Villarreal's first half, also criticised the performance of the referee.

"Every time this referee (Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez) whistles at us I usually end up angry. He didn't want to help the show," Marcelino said.
