In a shocking turn of events, Xavi Hernandez is set to leave the club at the end of the season! Despite announcing his decision to part ways with the club earlier, a change of mind and ‘commitment’ to making the club achieve success forced Xavi to track back on his decision. It was also confirmed that the manager will stay at the club at least until the end of his contract in 2025.

However, as per latest reports, the former midfielder and club legend is now going to reverse his decision yet again! Media outlets cite two reasons in particular that ‘angered’ club President Joan Laporta. News surrounding the same broke moments prior to the kick-off for the game against Almeria.

The first reason is believed to be comments made by Xavi prior to the Almeria game. He claimed that the club’s economic situation is ‘not the best’ and that the club will fight to win all titles despite the same.

The second reason is reported to be how the club has gone to ‘extraordinary lengths’ to sign certain players, even though Xavi hasn’t made ‘much use’ of them.

Barcelona overcome relegated Almeria to ‘cement’ second spot in La Liga

Barcelona were up against an Almeria side who were dead last in La Liga . The Catalans were on the back of a 2-0 home win against Real Sociedad and despite coming up against ‘easy’ opponents, the Blaugrana boss fielded a very strong starting line-up. Barcelona got things underway early on after Fermin Lopez grabbed his first goal of the night from a header.

Pedri‘s inch-perfect cross into the area was met by Lopez, who headed the ball down before it bounced past the opposition keeper and into the roof of the net. The goal scorer then saw a long ranger punched away by Luis Maximiano before grabbing another to give his side the win.

An accurate cut-back pass from Sergi Roberto fell invitingly at the feet of Lopez, who made no mistake to curl it past Maximiano in a heartbeat. After scoring nine goals in all competitions this year, Lopez is now the midfielder with the second-most goals in a single season for the club!

As it stands, Barcelona are four points clear of third place Girona. Their final two games of the season are against Rayo Vallecano and Sevilla.
